Keewaywin and Round Lake First Nations in Canada are providing IP-based GSM cellular services utilizing Lemko Corporation’s Node1™ 4G Core Network solution. This delivers mobile communication to remote parts of northern Ontarion, bridging the Digital Divide between urban and rural lives.
“The Chief and Council of Keewaywin is committed to providing a choice for residents and visitors in our community. The new cellular service is bringing our community the best wireless network technology choice in 2009,” said Chief Joe Meekis, Keewaywin First Nation.
“Cellular service will help develop the potential for investment and job creation in the Far North. In addition, it will foster the development of knowledge-based expertise in communities such as Keewaywin First Nation,” said Michael Gravelle, Minister of Northern Development and Mines and Chair of the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation.
Node1 delivers an all IP, packet-switched mobile broadband cellular solution. It provides a complete cellular network at every cell site by local completion of all switching, control, authentication and CDR billing record creation. This approach eliminates backhaul, utilizes data-friendly IP lines to the cell site, and allows the operator to keep all inter-connect traffic on their network.
“Lemko is excited to help deliver cellular communication in their demanding environment,” says Jason Osborne, Vice President at Lemko Corporation. “Node1’s fully distributed IP approach transforms the operator’s business model by dramatically lowering costs while providing economic development opportunities through wireless IP communication.”
