Immediately after Hurricane Katrina devastated New Orleans, Lemko was asked by the U.S. Army to support their relief efforts. Lemko deployed four sites and supported over 500 users over a 3 week period. A critical component was Lemko’s ability to use satellite to connect the sites to cover the Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport and the Naval Air Station – New Orleans. The ability to have this communications capability was valuable to the relief effort. Everyone appreciated the mobile phones donated by Motorola and Kyocera.
